AFA Solo Competitions

AFA Concerto Competition

All full-time students in the Orchestra/Chamber Music & Piano departments are eligible to compete in the annual AFA Concerto Competition.

The concerto competition is judged into two divisions:

  • Winds, Brass and Percussion
  • Strings, Harp and Piano

A preliminary round will be held during the week of June 28 (the second week of the Conservatory). Finalists will be announced shortly after the preliminary round and will have the opportunity to work with an AFA accompanist for the final round. Faculty Department Heads from throughout the conservatory serve as judges.

If you are interested in competing in the 2010 AFA Concerto Competition, please be sure that the piece you choose can be rehearsed and performed by the AFA Conservatory Orchestra in the alotted time. Works that are deemed too difficult for the orchestra will be disqualified.

Winners will perform with the AFA Conservatory Orchestra on the final orchestra performance.

Application forms will be mailed with student enrollment packages. Please contact AFA for further information and repertory questions.

Congratulations to the 2009 Concerto Competition Winners!
