Presented in collaboration with the Da Camera of Houston Young Artist Program, AFA is changing the way young musicians learn their craft. Our philosophy is based on more than instrument instruction and technical mastery: students work together with peers of similar abilities and are coached by Da Camera Young Artists on performance practice, music theory, public speaking, and interaction with audiences. The program is open to string, woodwind, and brass players with at least one year of experience and pianists with at least three years of experience.
Rehearsals take place on Saturdays at AFA offices just outside downtown Houston. Concert performances take place in December and April and are a required part of the experience.
CHOOSE WHAT YOU DO
In both the Summer Music Conservatory and Year-Round Programs, string, woodwind, brass, harp and percussion players create beautiful music together—learning everything they need to know about playing in groups large and small.
